It also excels as a unified remote control to switch between devices, etc. The Revue is great if you want to browse the web, or use a keyboard to search for shows, or watch Amazon Prime. More expensive than other solutions, but after you evaluate the capabilities, it is absolutely worth the price. One side of the Remote Control is as sleek and intuitive as an iPod. I cannot comment on this since I do not use it.

But I also want the flexibility to play off USB directly. Roku seems like the obvious answer as it has a Plex app. My laptop has a quadcore i7 2.2 GHz, so the performance should be fine, especially with just one TV. But I know if I change to Plex I can use clients.
